Productivity: The Desk Olympic’s

Part 1 of a 2 part series Question, How can you become a more Productive and Creative force behind the desk. Before we go their, let me just say that Desk work, Requires body work!

Your body deserve the proper training.

Recently I learnt the hard way that working at the desk, should be classified as athletic sport why? well because its hard work, Its both mentally and physically demanding. Heres the story… For the last month or so,  I’ve not exercised at my normal intensity, in fact I’ve been a bit of a bum in that area – Anyway I’ve notice an dramatic affect on my energy both mentally and physically, and a lowering of productivity and endurance.

If you wan’t to stay in the game you’ve got to be able to take the strain.

I’ve normally got tones of energy and endurance behind the desk, but without exercise my desk chair seems to be acting like a black hole, its gravity seems to be socking the life out of my butt… It’s so sore! This experience has exposed just how demanding desk work actual is. Sitting at the desk for hours on end is tough! – I take my hat of to those who don’t work out. You guys have got some Mighty powers of endurance. but apart from Having endurance, I think you should workout… Heres whys 5,6,7,8 HOURS  PLUS working at your desk, Day after day, Year after year can really really mess with your swagger! – You don’t want to end up look like a desk demon, all ridged and hunched over, With veins popping out of the side of your head – Or a desk goblin, with you’re belly balanced on the edge of your desk and you bum hanging over the side of your chair. All in all, if your working long hours behind the desk, YOUR AN ATHLETE, so see your self’s as one. Most people have not got the mental, physical strength and endurance to sit in a chair long enough to even begin to compete in the desk games, Trust me you’re an athlete. I’ve not workout for a month and my bony ass is under extreme pleasure, I don’t know how much more my body or mind can take, I’ve been failing asleep and everything, I need to get working out again.

Here’s a definition an athlete from the free dictionary.com A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, which are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive context.

I would say that the physical act of passively sitting at a desk  for a long period of time is a physical exercise, and it takes strength and endurance

Negative effects of long hour at the desk,

  • The longer you work at your desk the lower your energy levels fall
  • The lower your energy, the more sluggish your mind
  • The more sluggish your mind the weaker your drive
  • The weaker your drive the lower your productivity

As you can see from the above your productivity demands mental stamina (concentration) and strong body. Particularly a strong bum, strong back, neck and an over all strong posture to keep you in the game.  I nominate desk work to be the new Olympic event, why because we are in competition
